3 and a half hours left…

and then Script Frenzy begins.

Also, just watched Fido. I was actually surprised how good it was. Really didn’t think it was going to be that entertaining, but I enjoyed it.

Anyway, that’s that. Hopefully I’ll get down to daily updates. At the very least, there’ll be updates on the days that I actually write something (like all writers, I’m a great procrastinator).

3 days left, and I think I’ve decided on an idea

I know it’s been done to death, but the zombies. The story is brewing. Plus, if it peeters out early, I can always pick up one of the other six ideas. So, a zombie movie taking place in an Edmonton Best Buy during a sci fi convention. Tagline: When the dead rise, nerds will inherit the Earth.

Anyway, I’m sick as a dog right now (and Life brand’s version of Dayquil sucks ass), but I found an awesome YouTube video on Matthew Good’s blog. (more…)

8 days

So there’s eight days left until Script Frenzy, and I’ve been struck, yet again, by inspiration. An adaptation of my (very) short story Twins (© Bradley Renaud, by the way). It was the TV show Most Haunted that did it to me. I’m thinking a reality show like that and everyone dies, but their cameras recorded their deaths, and then the investigators go to this Danielle girl as the person who first reported the ghostly activity. So that makes… six? … seven? … ideas for next month. I’m going to have to throw them all in a hat and choose one randomly or something.

In the realm of music, I’m looking forward to the Matt Good concert in June. I know it’s three months off, but I’m stoked. Also, the new Nine Inch Nails dual disc album Ghosts I-IV coming out in May. Fuck me. All instrumental and, if Ghosts I (available for free download on the Ghosts.NIN website) is any indication, it’s going to be great. The one problem is that I wanted to pre-order the deluxe edition that comes with a DVD of the masters (which is why I bought the Y34RZ3R0R3M1X3D album after already having purchased it on iTunes) and a Blue Ray disc that would be useless to me until I got a PS3 or other BR player. However, as cheap as $75 is for four discs (especially since blank BR discs are $30 each), the $50 shipping brought the price tag a little high for me. I may have to get the $5 download, and then get the deluxe version when it’s released in May.

And now, the three movies I watched recently (with a little stuff about the DVD content as well). (more…)

14 days and counting; still not daily

First, a very quick movie review. American Gangster. Fucking brilliant, all three hours of it. Even though I wasn’t all that impressed by Russell Crowe’s performance in the first two thirds of the  movie.

And now: a concert. Serj Tankian. Shaw Conference Centre. Edmonton, AB. March 16. (more…)

So much for daily

But still, I have to write something. Thus, a few mini-reviews. The last three movies I watched, actually.

Underground

The only reason I rented this is because I saw Danny John-Jules‘ name on the cover. What can I say? I like an actor, and I want to see everything they’ve been in. I never really expected it to be any good. It only took about half an hour for me to realize I was wrong. I wouldn’t say it was great, but it had potential. It would have made a much better TV mini-series, given the subject matter. It’s supposed to be reality TV to the next level, so why not? Take the concept of The Office, a scripted TV show in the guise of reality television. Add in a UFC style fight at the end of each episode, and you’d might even get good ratings. It would allow for much needed character development (the length of the movie really doesn’t lend itself to caring for any of the characters), and give a chance for more than just a minute or two or back story. In the absence of anything particularly interesting to write about at the moment (music and cleaning is all that’s been going on for me today, other than this), I figured I’d bore all the people who probably aren’t even reading this. The track listing for the soundtrack to my still unnamed 2007 Script Frenzy! script. (more…)

And so begins yet another blog

Filed under: I am the boss of this blog, NaNoWriMo, Script Frenzy!

And this is what it’s for:

In November of 2007 (during which I was participating in NaNoWriMo), I thought of the novel idea of documenting the process this year. You know how they say that there are no original ideas left? Yeah, well at one of the write-ins I attended, I learned that some other Edmowrimos had thought of it, too. Only their idea was quite a bit more sound. (more…)
